The Reformer explained...
The Reformer was the very first piece of Pilates equipment invented by Joseph Pilates after he developed the Mat Pilates Method. Designed to build on and enhance his original approach, the Reformer features a bed-like frame with a sliding carriage and spring resistance — offering the perfect balance of support and challenge.

What makes the Reformer so special is it's versatility. It allows for precise, controlled movements that develop core strength, flexibility and muscle endurance, while also giving the body support where it’s needed. Thanks to its clever design, the Reformer makes it possible to perform a wide variety of dynamic exercises that strengthen, condition and rebalance the whole body.
My Reformer Studio Story
I’ve spent so long dreaming of one day having my own studio that I can’t quite believe it's come true!
When I first discovered reformer pilates, I instantly fell in love. As there were no studios around Exeter at the time, I was travelling to Taunton twice a week to practice. As soon as I could, I went on to complete the training with the very best trainer - the one and only J Pilates, so I could add reformer to my existing Mat qualifications (at this point, the dream of one day having my own studio started to twinkle in my mind).
Once qualified, I was super lucky to be given the opportunity to teach from The Pilates Studio in Chudleigh, where I first started teaching on the equipment. I still teach there every Tuesday and Friday and I have a full client list which makes me so happy.
As soon as I was able, I purchased my first reformer. As such a huge investment, I spent a really long time researching and testing reformers to ensure I selected the very best equipment for myself and my clients - something that’s incredibly important to me.
We had to have a little reshuffle in our living room so my reformer could live at one end - and its from here that I started teaching a couple of clients from home. Knowing this wasn’t the ideal set up for my family or my clients, I longed for my own dedicated studio space.
So, after another home reshuffle (yes, ’evicting’ my children from their playroom), I transformed my favourite room in the house into my very own, gorgeous studio. As well as boasting the very best equipment, the studio is flooded with natural light and has beautiful views over the fields that surround us. I’ve put a lot of love and attention into decorating and turning the space into a calm and peaceful setting - I smile every time I walk in there.
After a little sprinkling of fate, I was able to purchase a second reformer, exactly the same as my first and am now able to offer both 1:1 and Duo sessions.

I continually strive to expand my knowledge of the Pilates method through attending training and workshops (as well constantly striving to improve my own practice, working with as many incredible teachers as I can.) I have some exciting training courses coming up over the coming months. Watch this space!
